June 22, 2008 update: Katie Carr, 1st DAN, competes at the American Karate Association Grand Nationals
Ms. Katie Carr, Soliday Blackbelt, competing in Forms Competition
Soliday Blackbelt, Katie Carr, traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the American Karate Association’s Grand Nationals and Bluegrass Nationals Karate Tournament. This tournament was combined this year as the two tournaments combined following the loss and passing of Ken Eubanks’, founder of the Bluegrass Nationals. This was the largest tournament Katie has competed in, with 30 rings of action and the largest division of competitors she has faced to date. Katie competed against more than 15 blackbelts and while she did not place in the Forms Competition, she took 5th Place in Fighting Competition. The opponent who beat her went on to take 1st Place. Katie’s 5th Place accomplishment will help earn her points in her 2008 efforts within the AKA Southern Region.
During the final evening ceremonies, Katie got a chance to watch Sideswipe, the AKA martial arts group who found the spotlight in the television show “America’s Got Talent” and most recently was signed to an ongoing show in Las Vegas.
