January 27, 2011 update: UGKA Master’s recognize Ms. Katie Carr during Thursday night Master’s class!
The Thursday night Master’s Class recognized Ms. Katie Carr as Mr. Ted Soliday, 10th DAN, presented her with her certification of 3rd Degree. The United Goju Karate Association, and the Sapulpa Institute of Karate follow the same traditions since the time Lou Angel brought Japanese Goju Ryu Karate to Tulsa with his studies under Gogan “The Cat” Yamaguchi.
Katie Carr credits Mr. Ted Soliday in being her mentor, and also recognizes UGKA karate instructors who have helped her develop in her career. Mr. Alan Anderson, who got her started in karate, and Mr. Clayton Badger (pictured above), who helped her get through her brown and black belt tests. Katie Carr began her karate career in 2002, and has been with Mr. Ted Soliday since the beginning of 2005. Katie’s accomplishments have been a testament to the hard work each of these people invested in her. Katie is a three time national fighting champion of the American Karate Association, and a member of the American Karate Association Hall of Fame in Chicago, Illinois. Katie is also a national fighting champion of the Midwest Martial Arts Association and a member of the Midwest Martial Arts Association Hall of Fame in Springfield, Illinois.
